PhD Title: Mesozoic Evolution of the Andean Margin in Southernmost South America
The Mesozoic Andean margin along southernmost Chile records a complex and interesting geologic history, involving the dispersal of the supercontinent Gondwana, the emergence of the Andes, the creation and destruction of a marginal basin, and links to the Antarctic Peninsula. An integrated approach will be used to investigate the evolution and geodynamic history of this remote region of Southern Patagonia. Structural geology, metamorphic petrology, and geochronology will be used to reconstruct a geological history of the region and its links to global geologic events. These data combined with geophysical data will be used to create plate tectonic reconstructions of southern South America and the Antarctic Peninsula.
