Research

Oulavanh has a Master of Art in International Development from the International University of Japan (IUJ) and a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics from the University of Wollongong, Australia. His areas of expertise include participatory rural appraisal, project cycle management, econometric analysis, economic development, and poverty and development stakeholder intervention in Laos.

Oulavanh has been granted the Australian Leadership Award (ALA) Scholarship and started his PhD research at the School of Geosciences, University of Sydney, in January 2009. His research aims to investigate the dynamic intervention structure of the private sector in poverty reduction and natural resources management in Laos, and also to explore the links between the private sector and other development actors in Laos. Before starting his PhD, Oulavanh was a Research Assistant in a research project examining spatial patterns of the poverty-environment nexus in Laos, supported by the Swiss National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) North-South. One outcome of this project was the publication of the Socio-Economic ATLAS of the Lao PDR (2008).
