PhD title: Tectonic evolution of the Indian Ocean

Following a recent study by Whittaker et al. 2007, positioning Australia over 500 km further east relative to the Antarctica at about 83 million years ago, other reconstructions of Gondwana now need to be revised.

With a focus on all abyssal plains off the west Australian margin, this project will revisit seafloor spreading anomalies to derive poles of rotations for fit reconstructions in an iterative fashion using EarthByte advanced plate tectonic software and database system.

Freely available pre-existing magnetic data (from GEODAS) will be used, as well as new data from my participation in CHRISP, a two month research cruise.

Ana attained a BSc Hons degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Management from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK) in 1997.
