PhD title: High-Pressure Granulite To Eclogite Facies Metamorphism: Mechanisms Of Formation And Tectonometamorphic Implications, Fiordland, New Zealand

Matthew De Paoli is a postgraduate student in metamorphic petrology at the University of Sydney. Matthew's research interests are high-P granulite and eclogite rocks from New Zealand and New Caledonia. He is currently investigating the development of high-P granulites from Southern Fiordland, South Island, New Zealand. With particular research emphasis focused on the metamorphic environment, generation, and tectonometamorphic implications of these high-P granulites so as to better understand the crustal evolution of the Western Fiordland Orthogneiss from its Cretaceous intrusion to subsequent metamorphism and exhumation. Matthew’s studies involve detailed petrological analysis and forward modeling of high-P granulite through to eclogite mineral equilibria in THERMOCALC. Through his research Matthew hopes to decipher the physiochemical conditions (pressure – temperature, aH2O, volume change etc.), which resulted in the generation of these high-P granulite assemblages.
