PhD title: Modelling morphological shoreface response for large-scale coastal change and climate change impacts.
Marc is part of the current Geocoastal team focused on researching the field of coastal morphodynamics operating at a multiscale continuum from daily beach changes to Holocene and Quaternary coastal evolution. Studying under Dr Peter Cowell, Marc joined the group at the start of January 2006, with an interest in the prediction of low-order large-scale coastal response at timescales of particular relevance to longer term climate change scenarios.
At present, his current research involves the combined use of real-world data and 2D/3D computer simulation modelling software to determine the future impacts and implications of climate change provided through sea-level changes and other forcing mechanisms, primarily for but not limited to the South-East Australian coast. Particular focus also lies in the development of a risk based assessment technique for approaches to coastal management through the extensive use of stochastic modelling, risk based assessment software and Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial processing tools. The outcomes of this research are likely to play a significant role in improving approaches to coastal management and the development of management strategies for coastal response in both Australian and Overseas.
